Oatmeal with Spiced Pears
Oatmeal always makes a warm, comforting breakfast. Spiced pears and walnuts add the perfect flavor for a chilly Fall morning.
Makes 2 servings
2/3 cup oatmeal
1-2 red pears (depending on size), cored and coarsely chopped
2 tbsp walnut pieces
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
Pinch of salt
1 cup milk
Preparation:
- In a small saucepan combine oatmeal, 1-1/3 cups water, chopped pear, walnuts, cinnamon, ground ginger and salt. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes or until water is absorbed.
- Serve oatmeal with milk.
Note - this recipe is even easier to make if you have a rice cooker. You can just combine the ingredients listed in step 1 in the rice cooker and set it to cook unattended - perfect for weekday mornings!
