Yogurt with Caramelized Figs

The sweetness of fresh figs is brought out by caramelizing them for a few minutes. If you have orange blossom water, it adds a delightful floral note to the yogurt, though cinnamon is also delicious in this dish. For the best flavor, use whole milk yogurt - we're big fans of Grace Harbor Farms plain yogurt.

If it's late in the season and figs are not available, sauteed pear slices make a good substitute.

Yogurt with caramelized figs and pistachios

Makes 4 serving

4 cups plain yogurt
1 pint figs
1/2 tsp orange blossom water or cinnamon
1/2 c pistachio nuts
Olive oil

Preparation:

  1. Remove stems from figs and cut figs in half lengthwise.
  2. Heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat in a large saute pan. Cook fig halves, cut side down, for about 5 minutes. Towards the end of this period, you'll see the fig juices browning around the fig halves in the pan.
  3. Mix yogurt and orange blossom water or cinnamon together in individual serving bowls.
  4. Arrange caramelized fig halves over yogurt in bowls and sprinkle with pistachios.
